What are your thoughts on the current state of Minecraft?

I am rolling up on two years of Minecraft and in my two years I have seen lots of changes and I honestly think that it's never been a better time to play Minecraft. Mojang is working hard to unify Minecraft will all of the Platforms and make playing together for all the masses.

I know a lot of players that have been around for awhile don't like all of the changes going on. But I think you have to change, old players keep quitting all the time and if you can not attract new players the game is going to die off. And I would like to see Minecraft around for the next 20 years. How about you? What are your thoughts on the current state of Minecraft?

I like the way game engine and the overall game is progressing. I think in terms of graphics minecraft is getting matured these days.I hope that they add some sort of the marketplace among the gamer transactions. I am sure this could help a lot to the gaming platform to grow. Hope to see this game 2 or 5 years more. I don't know about 20 years but 5 years from now would be good enough.

I've been playing minecraft for a long time too and I honestly think the game is at its peak nowadays. Unifying the player base while also adding a lot of new things and getting rid of Java were changes I honestly appreciated. Just like you said, if you don't bring in new players your game is going to die a slow death.

Original Everquest is 19 years old and still going, so there is hope that Minecraft can keep going that long too. It just all depends on what direction Mojang and Microsoft decide to take Minecraft. Because I have seen games with a huge following cripple the player population with just 1 patch. Hopefully, that doesn't happen to Minecraft. Because as long as Minecraft is on this website will be around unless I die which hopefully won't happen for another 20~40+ years lol.

I can't say that I really have any strong feelings one way or the other. In spite of the fact that Minecraft has added loads and loads of features throughout the 7+ years that I've been playing it, I never found that any of the additions really changed my overall play style to a massive degree.

I think that the 1.8 update was the last one that I really cared about. Updates up until that point really felt massive and important and changed up the game a lot for me, in a good way. But as of late I find myself not caring about the updates all that much. As long as they don't break the game with something new, I'm fine with the updates though.

20-40 range is a bit too much stretched. I think with the holograms and VR we may likely to have modern games. And those games are going to change the way we are playing in future. So It'd be hard to see the PC gaming. I am sure that in that context it's kind of difficult to see where game stands. It'd be harder to see current traditional console and PC in next 10 years.

I agree with you @Soulwatcher, I personally think that Minecraft is in a great state overall. Mojang has been listening to the community and is finally uniting the players - we all wanted this since the early days of Minecraft. I have been playing for years now and I don't regret it at all. Sure, I don't agree with all of the monetization choices but the game itself is amazing and I love the updates.

Some older players just don't like the change but in order to progress, you must embrace it.

In my opinion, I think that the game just keeps on getting better and better, and what makes it better are the updates. The concept of the game is still present because it's all about building and using your imagination. I hope they don't remove anything from the game.

I agree I don't mind them keep adding stuff to the game. But I sure hope that they don't take anything away from the game, it would be devastating to me because I like the game so much the way it is. And I have had games I played in the past totally change the game and remove stuff in one patch and it killed the player base.

Wow! 19 years!

I'd agree with this. Six years seems like an eternity for a game to maintain its popularity, but it is possible it'll keep going strong. Here's hoping it'll keep going in a good direction!

I agree to unify the player base was the best thing that they ever did and my only wish is if they could somehow include Java players too. They are getting ready to launch Java 1.13 and it's going to break a TON of mods. And a lot of the older mods still worked even though they were old and people still used them. But this update is going to change that and if coders don't step up and fix a lot of the favorite mods it's going to really hurt the player base. Because some people are running over 100 mods on their server.

P.S. Who knows maybe Microsoft wants to hurt the player base?

As I said before they are about to break a ton of mods with Java 1.13 and I know its going to hurt the player base unless coders set up and fix a lot of the older favored mods. And my personal opinion is changed is good as long as you don't rock the boat and Microsoft are about to tip the Java boat upside down. So it's going to be interesting to see what is going to happen.

Your 100% right PC's and consoles are going to be going through major changes in the next 10 years. And I hope that it changes for the better and not cloud computing. The last thing that I want to do is pay a monthly service fee to use a PC or a video game console. At that point, I think I will walk away from the PC and gaming consoles!
