PSVita Warriors Lair Postponed...

I get updates on game release dates via an iPhone app, and the latest update I got states that Warriors Lari (aka RUIN) was postponed, TBA. After checking it out online, I saw only one thing that claims it was postponed or indefinitely cancelled due 8 members of the team being laid off...

What a shame if this is true...

This game was one of the most anticipated Vita titles. It would be a shame if it never sees the light of day... After doing a quick search, the only "proof" of any cancellation is one person claiming that the majority of the staff has been laid off and the 20 or so people left are working on a game that has already released.

If it is indeed cancelled, being a first party title, I will take it as a confirmation that Sony has no faith in the Vita and it probably wont end up being the hardcore gaming handheld that I'm looking for. As much as it would pain me, I would sell my Vita over this.

Well, after looking around, Wikipedia no longer has a solid release date (I know how unreliable that is), and the publisher, San Diego Studio no longer has it listed on their site as one of their games...Which means there is a new publisher or no publisher at all...

*edit*
I've emailed Idol minds in hopes that they can confirm or deny any rumors. I will gladly share any response I get from them.

So..you will sell your Vita over this game claiming because this slightly better than average side scrolling RPG got cancelled, while claiming the Vita isnt hardcore. Even though games like Resistance and Killzone are still being developed for it?

I know its your opinion..but

Side scrolling? That's not this game, It's a top down dungeon crawler.

Game is still listed on Idol Mind's website so lets hope it is just a rumor.

It is, and I've emailed Idol Minds (with no response yet). However, there hasn't been an update since 2011...

It's not a side scroller...it's top down, dungeon crawler. You know, like Diablo/Champions of Norrath/Torchlight. It's not just the core gameplay that is exciting, the core gameplay is simply dungeon crawler. The features that make it so shiny are multiplayer. Each player sets up a "Lair" and other players can attempt to conquer it. Your lair is based on how you set it up, your characters level, and progress through the game. In challenging a lair you can actually aquire treasure FROM the owner of the lair. If your lair is conquered, you can advance on the other players lair in return. On top of the lair part of multiplayer, there is of course co-op. Not sure about pvp, but the capability is certainly there...It's more than a typical top down dungeon crawler, it adds a really neat aspect that hasn't been seen in any dungeon crawler, as well as keeping the basics that make dungeon crawlers awesome.

You would take this as a sign that Sony is abandoning the Vita? I'm glad you are not part of the Sony brass.

First it was Silent Hill: Book of Memories, now Warrior's Lair?

This is some terrible decision making, keeping in mind that Diablo 3 is releasing in May.

The idea is that the Vita sales were so sluggish that Sony is cutting back on games for the Vita until they make up for the deficit. I'm not sure if this is the case, however, if it is, I wouldn't be surprised.

As for Diablo 3...I absolutely refuse to even humor that game. The graphics aren't much different, basically all they did was re-paint everything, force you to play online, and add in micro payments. I assume what will happen is, those who will pay butt loads of real cash for the game will excel and those who don't will end up being gimped. Also it will drive the "market" crazy. Someone will pay $0.99 for a crappy low level sword, then sell it on the market place at inflated prices because they know that there are some people who can't or won't pay real cash for items, but they will shell out as much gold as possible.

I REALLY wanted to play D3, until I heard about the DRM, and the Marketplace. (even though the graphics didn't get a huge overhaul from D2, and it barely looks like a 2012 game)

Sorry for getting off topic...

I don't buy that, its very normal to see these kind of delays early in the life cycle of a new device, regardless of how hardware sales are picking up. Maybe Sony revamped their launch strategy to maintain a steady stream of launching titles on the Vita. Or maybe the games just needs more polish. But a delay or cancel cause "oh oh" the device performs poor commercially, I don't think that's the reason.

As for sluggish sales, I think it performs on par with expectations. After all this is a hardcore handheld device, or at least profiled and sold this way, so naturally they didn't expect a Nintendo Wii scenario where every mom, dad and their dog goes out and get one. Even coming from the HUGELY popular DS, Nintendo struggled the first year to sell those 3DS units, it required a hefty price cut.

I bought the Vita for Ruin and LBP. LBP, which was supposed to be a launch title still has no release date and Ruin may be cancelled. I am willing to sell my Vita over Sony cancelling first-party titles because they don't think they can recup their money. If Sony doesn't have faith in the console, why should anyone else?
