PSVita VITA has 4GB NAND, 800MB used (not System RAM)

Some of Yifan Lu’s interesting findings are that the eMMC NAND is about 3.78 GB, with about 800 MB used by the (encrypted) system, and the remaining 3GB or so potentially empty for now.

Wonder if this could allow the VITA to have a complete OS overhaul.

Anyway, here's what seem to be an interesting point by n00bsaib0t (gamefaqs user):
Probably nothing. Android phones were doing this same thing back in the day when their internal storage was for apps only. You would buy a phone with 2GB storage and only get access to 512MB for apps with the rom taking 150MB at the most leaving over a gig inaccessible.

Well that's good but I'm more concerned about large changes to update the overall handheld itself.

Hopefully this means that Sony has more flexibility with the UI for the Vita; with 4gb available they could release a monster firmware OS if needed.I don't think this news really means anything as such apart from being able to copy the NAND content to your PC (which is currently encrypted, and no idea how many times encrypted at that, could be any number of layers to get through).

I used to know someone who had a tinkered PSP which did a few great things (used to love the emulation side of it plus some clever homebrew apps out too), otherwise what with me with the Vita instead I've been more than happy to invest in it legitimately. I personally hope that this doesn't lead to the console being hacked, as even though the aim maybe to add even more features to this console it'll be swallowed up by piracy and that's the last thing the Vita needs right now. If that did happen you'd see an increase in console and memory card sales and a sharp dip in game sales which would lead to lower development in future games.
