One of the main questions that people seem to ask me is "Will Titanfall be eSport-friendly out of the box?"
It's a question which I've been asked hundreds of times, be it in person or on Twitter. Respawn have not spoken about eSports at all until now and there is simply no information out there regarding LAN support, built-in league play etc. I decided to ask Vince Zampella, head of Respawn Entertainment the question and I'm glad to say he gave me a response on Twitter.
Vince stated "Titanfall won't have those features out of the box, but if there's enough requests for it we can add it".
Although the initial few words of his response will be disappointing to those in the competitive scene, it does get better towards the end. Let's face it - it doesn't make sense to add such features to a new IP without knowing there is a demand for it. The fact that they will consider adding it however is a testament to Respawn and how much the Community opinion matters to them.
Call of Duty has arguably been the sole "Competitive shooter" on consoles. The events draw big sponsors and hundreds of players from all over the world. Competitive gamers have been waiting for a title to come along and add a new dynamic to competitive gaming on consoles and many believe Titanfall is the one to do so. On PC, we are yet to find out if private server rental will be supported or whether you'll have to get one from an "approved vendor". We will update the post when we have more information on this.
Are you a competitive gamer? Do you want to see Titanfall have a competitive eSports Community? Leave us a comment below telling us just that. We'll be sure to show Vince Zampella your opinions.
