PS4 PS4 Announcement - Final Thoughts

OK guys, what did you guys think?

For me, in a nutshell.

- graphics pretty impressive. But I hope that effects such as natural objects i.e. trees, and earth get as much detail as their man-made counterparts

- The ability to remote play PS4, and hopefully, PS1,2 and 3 games on the Vita is perhaps the biggest selling point for me. I don't own a PS3, so if I could play PS3 games, immediately, on the Vita, there's a whole library of games open to me at launch.

- The idea to play on the Vita, or possibly another device that Sony have recently patented--

--might give Sony the leverage against Microsoft, as they have no such gaming handheld device to do the same thing (although I call dips they'll likely manufacture something similar to the Wii U's controller).

Negatives:

- I was hoping Move would play a larger part in gaming.

- Looks like we're going to be seeing the exact same kinds of games next gen as we did this gen, just better graphics. Great news if you love your sandbox, 3rd or 1st person action games, bad news if you like almost anything else.

Additionally, I was intruiged to see several indie devs talk positively of the system. I'm more interested in what games we see from indie devs than major companies.

Positive:
The support of the game companies and the quality of their demos were amazing
Remote play was played up and will play a bigger role
Streaming games/gameplay/video
Physics capabilities of the Havok engine on PS4 look crazy
Good quality games previewed; Watch Dogs, Destiny, Killzone Shadow Fall, etc.
Move on PS4 will amp up creation
Vita and device connectivity

Negative:
No price/release date
No view of the console yet

Loved it apart from not showing the console. The way they talked, the Vita will be a important part of the PS4. I expect the Vita will have higher sales because it will be such a big part of the console. But I am a little scared Vita might just be used for remote play. I think the PS4 is going to do very well and Microsoft needs to answer in a big way. The sharing is very cool and multi-player on consoles will be revolutionized. I am very excited. The controller looks awesome and I can't wait to get it in my hands. Plus, I think PC gaming will take a hit. Blizzard will start the movement. I am expecting SWTOR to be on PS4 as well as The Elder Scrolls Online. I am not a fan of the "friend from somewhere helps you beat a hard part" thing though.

But no Uncharted 4 :(
Hopefully at E3

We know its this Holiday, just not exact date.

It was awesome. Sony did a great job about not showing me too much, leaving me excited for E3.

The PS4 is really looking like it could be the ULTIMATE console.

We know its this Holiday, just not exact date.

Oh, I knew that. But Fall/Holidays isn't as accurate as "Mocember 32nd" (I used a fake month and date so that the morons don't confuse that for an ACTUAL release date as they tend to do...)

Besides, most people don't start saving for it until they have a set date. :P

wheres all the vita info about connectivity people are getting this info from because i just saw the live stream and i didn't see them say anything about vita other than its on hold

Did you not hear the bit about remote play or connectivity to other devices? Maybe the shiny lights distracted you. lol

I missed it, kids come first. Besides looking at everything individually, is there somewhere I can view the event? A link would be much appreciated.

Be Brave.

It was incredible, my only issue is with the controller and its concave sticks... I really dislike concave, will probably swap them out with the mushroom style ones on the DS3 if they are the same size. If thats not possible I guess someone will make rubber grips to go over them.

Software was ace, new Killzone and inFAMOUS justify the purchase alone for me.

Pos:
+Really, REALLY nice looking controller
+Plans for Vita cross-play
+Lovely Graphics
+Competent social features that don't intrude on the core gaming experience.
+It's actually called PS4
+Seems like a pretty strong games lineup - particularly interested by Knack and Drive Club
+Loads of new IPs!
+They're leaving the excitement of seeing the actual 'box' till E3 to keep the hype train rolling (I assume).

Neg:
-Too much focus on 1st and 3rd person action games. The industry seems to have have forgotten about sports games, especially action sports.
-The Witness just looks like a prettier version of Myst! Revolutionary my arse.
-No word on if it blocks used games.

Very slick presentation as well, I liked how it was fronted almost exclusively by developers, and they didn't spend too long focussing on a single game - it was BAM BAM BAM, new titles everywhere.

Good presentation. PS4 looks great. Disappointed that it was just a PS4 announcement, though.

It will be a painful day when people start Randomly bodying you out of nowhere on the flip of a dime in fighting games....that is probably the worst thing to happen in gaming. That means tournament play will be a MUST if you want a legit 1 on 1.

Let's hope that controller take over isn't as mind blowing as we all think.

-No word on if it blocks used games..

This is a good point, which I stupidly forgot to bring up.

I've got a big feeling that Sony are going to push, not only preventing used game sales, but from people buying new, even in physical form as well.

One such man talks about PS4 being able to predict what games you will want, and have it preloaded/ installed by the time you purchase it. This, I'm assuming, is by purchasing the game 'online', as opposed to a retail copy, new or used. Perhaps it will only be a case of being more convenient to buy online, but even then, they will be pushing for there to be more incentive to buy from PSN rather than at Gamestop, Amazon, etc.

EDIT: How's about everyone list the one game that stood out for them?

I'm mostly interested in that Knack game. I liked that it was different from all the FPS/ 3rd person, realistic styled games that were shown. Looks to have a great story too.
